About Us
Hereford Bat Rescue are a small group of dedicated volunteers who operate within Herefordshire, rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing bats.
Our ambulance drivers answer calls from members of the public who have found a bat in need, who will then collect and deliver to one of the few experienced carers in the county. We are on call all throughout the year and calls can come in at any time of the day.
We are all registered with the Bat Conservation Trust who connect finders to their closest ambulance drivers. Our team care passionately about bats and all wildlife, and we always do our best to help bats in need of rescue. This sometimes requires us to drive many miles within rural Herefordshire which our amazing volunteers give up their free time and expenses to.
Bats in the UK are protected by law. Our job as carers is to rehabilitate bats and release them back to where they were found once we are confident they can survive back out in the wild. Each bats circumstances and injuries are unique so the time leading up to release can range from one day to many months.
Bat Stats 2022
In 2022 we responded to 104 bats that were grounded or injured in Herefordshire and the surrounding counties.
We managed to successfully rehabilitate and release 49 of them back to the wild.
Thank you to each and every member of public who found a bat and contacted us via BCT's Bat Care Network or directly.
